On June 24, a law was passed to end the ban that didn’t allow women to drive in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has many restrictions on women, and women are often required to have male permission to do different tasks and actions. This is one of the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s ideas to modernize Saudi Arabia and its society, which follows a strict form of Sunni Islam. Women still have many restrictions, but this is a step in the right direction.

So, what are the new female drivers of Saudi Arabia wearing while driving? Because they follow Islam and the dress codes of Saudi Arabia, they still dress very modestly. I noticed while searching that it depends on the woman and her personal beliefs. I saw females in niqabs, in hijabs, in burkas, and some with no head coverings. Some of my favorite pictures found were of some women wearing sunglasses along with their traditional dress.

One important thing to remember is that wearing a hijab or even a burka can be a woman’s personal choice and not something she is being forced to wear. Culture and different interpretations of religion play a role in each Muslim women’s outfit. That being said, let’s take a look at what the newly licensed female drivers are wearing in Saudi Arabia!
